Sydney Swim PLC punches above weight at Age Nationals 2007

SSC PLC Went to Nationals with just four swimmers: Kailah Elliott, Ian Sarno, Caitlin Merrett and Zoe Johnson. We won more medals than several larger teams.

Ian Sarno took gold in the 16 Years 200m Breaststroke and silver in the 100m Breastroke; Kailah Elliott won silver in the Girls 15 Year 50m Freestyle; Caitlin Merrett set PBs in her backstroke events, and Zoe Johnson did a PB in the Girls 14 Year Olds 50 LC Metre Freestyle.

Caitlin’s mother Mary Merrett was happy Caitlin managed 2 personal best times at nationals both in the 200 and 100 backstroke. She said this was the first time since the coaching changes at the club in the middle of last winter season that Caitlin had done PBs.

In the 100 Fly Caitlin did 1.08.17 (placing her 20th in the country) and 29.06 in the 50 Free (35th). Her PBs came in the 200 back with 2.28.64 (18th) and 100 back with 1.09.48 (23rd).

Mary said: “Caitlin enjoyed swimming at the nationals and gained some very important race experience at an elite level. She would encourage anyone who qualifies to attend nationals as it is a rewarding experience”
